Luis Romero - EcoCamp Patagonia Guide

Luis RomeroLuis has been working at EcoCamp since 2008, trekking round Torres del Paine on the 5 day and 7 day W and 9 day circuit season after season and loving it. He’s from Puerto Natales, Torres del Paine’s neighbouring town, in the region of Magallanes and Chilean Antartica (Chile’s chilly part). His favourite place in Chile is Torres del Paine, not just because it’s part of his Patagonic homeland and incredibly beautiful, but because he believes the park and the whole region have sky high potential for non-exploitative tourism.

Luis’ hobbies include sea kayaking, horse-riding, and trekking and drinking mate tea in the fresh countryside air. Loyal to his Magellanic roots, his favourite food is spit-roasted lamb, something he gets to feast on in the weekly Barbecues at EcoCamp Patagonia. His favourite trip is the 9 day Torres del Paine Circuit because of the wide range of ground covered, giving trekkers the chance to see the diverse landscapes of the park in all their beauty. He also enjoys getting to know guests during these longer trekking circuits, and gets on particularly well with the trekkers who are laid-back and easily cheered up after a difficult day. November, just before high season kicks off, is his favourite month owing to the reasonably stable climate and the calm period before the crowds begin to flood in.

Treks with Luis are always entertaining and full of adrenaline, whether fighting to cross the John Gardner pass with almost zero visibility or laughing about events that occurred during the visibility loss back at camp.
