Hotel of the Year - LATA Achievement Awards

We are thrilled to announce that EcoCamp Patagonia has won Hotel of the Year at the LATA Achievement Awards, held yesterday (11th June) in London.  Our sister company, Cascada Expediciones, who owns and operates EcoCamp, also placed, coming second in the DMC/Tour Operator of the Year category.

Respect for Nature

There is a famous quote by the author and environmentalist John Muir, who says ¨Keep close to Nature’s heart, and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean¨ and this quote summarizes perfectly why we do what we do. Being in nature is the best to feel connected to yourself and to each other, and ultimately to your home, which is this planet. But in order to feel that reconnection, you need to get away from the stresses of modern day life and submerge yourself in something simpler, and that is what we do so perfectly at EcoCamp and Cascada. There is nothing to really separate you from that nature, but with that closeness comes responsibility. It is our job, as a business and as people of the world, to look after, safeguard and protect the beautiful ecosystem around us, and we are very proud to know that not only are we succeeding at that, but we are now being recognized on an international scale for doing so.

Born of Passion

Cascada has been a tour operator since 1991 when our founders, Javier, Yerko and Nani, would escape the Chilean capital of Santiago to lead kayaking trips in the Maipo Canyon, and they did this because it brought them closer to the river.  They found that the physical movement and adrenaline that came from kayaking ¨woke them up¨ in a sense, and they found themselves seeing the world of the river in a completely new way. Now, 25 years later, Cascada is one of South America’s leading tour operators, appearing in magazines and winning awards like this one, but in our heart, nothing has really changed. We are still a team that loves being in nature, and helping our guests to feel closer to themselves and each other is still what we do best.
