EcoCamp Patagonia

The 2025-2026 season for EcoCamp Patagonia began on September 6th, and from the start, we had a variety of programs running in parallel. We had 13 participants in the Patagonian International Marathon event, a large private group participating in our EPIC Multisport program, our classic in-house Wildlife Safari programs, and several private programs.

Just 2 days before the season started, our 3-week guide school for Wildlife Safari guides had ended, so our guides had to dive right into the season with a variety of different activities.

Lucky for us, almost all our guides from last season returned for another season, so most of them already know how things work and all the logistics related to the activities we offer.

Francisca De los Reyes - EcoCamp´s Head Guide

We had a talk with Francisca De los Reyes, who returned as Head Guide, and our new Assistant Head Guide, Roberto Bustamante, about the coming season, but let us first introduce you to Francisca, who stepped into her trekking boots at EcoCamp for the first time back in 2018 as a Wildlife Safari guide:

"My journey with EcoCamp began back in 2018. I arrived as a guide with no prior experience in Torres del Paine — though I had worked for two years in Chile’s Lake District as a trekking guide and hiked the W in 2016, I had never worked in Magallanes.

It turned out to be a beautiful chapter. What I loved most was how warmly the EcoCamp guiding team welcomed me. They helped me grow professionally, and I carry very fond memories from that time.

Afterward, I worked at Hotel Las Torres and Hotel Tierra, and following the pandemic, I returned to EcoCamp as a guide in 2023. That November, I was given the chance to step into the role of Assistant Head Guide, and by the end of the same season, I became Head Guide — a position I continue to hold today.

Over the years, I’ve learned a great deal about ecotourism, sustainability, and how to lead a team with kindness and empathy. I feel deeply grateful that EcoCamp was my alma mater — the place where my career took root — and that after years away, it welcomed me back and gave me the space to grow once again".

What are you most excited about this season? Any new programs?

One of the most rewarding parts of my role is working with the team. Several of our guides have spent multiple seasons at EcoCamp, and I’ve had the chance to witness their professional growth — something I’m eager to continue supporting.

I’m also excited about the new excursions we’ve introduced to our Wildlife Safari program, such as Vega Castillo and Laguna Totora. These experiences are designed with a strong focus on observing Magellanic’ wildlife in stunning natural settings. I hope that our guests will enjoy them as much as we do".

What did you learn from last season that you take with you this season?

"Life is beautiful, but it’s important to take the time to truly appreciate it — especially in a place like this. Leading a team comes with both good and challenging moments, yet I always try to remember the reason we are here: to fully enjoy each moment. That mindset helps us become more empathetic and responsible individuals, both towards each other and the environment around us".

What advice do you have for our future guests?

“I’d recommend checking carefully what clothing to bring depending on the season — it makes all the difference in enjoying the experience without unnecessary discomfort. Never underestimate nature, and if you’re planning to hike the Base of the Towers, try to train a bit beforehand. And of course, don’t forget to bring a camera! :D"

Introducing Roberto Bustamante, the new Head Assistant Guide of EcoCamp

Roberto, our new Assistant Head Guide, has experience from other hotels near the national park, but was seeking new challenges. We are delighted and excited to have an experienced person join the guide team. Please welcome Roberto to his new role at EcoCamp Patagonia!

Tell us, what is your role as Assistant Head Guide?

“My role as Assistant Head Guide is to support the guiding team while also enhancing the guest experience by ensuring safety and creating unforgettable moments. I serve as a bridge between the Head Guide and the rest of the team, helping with coordination, planning, and guiding whenever it’s needed".

What are you most excited about this season?

“What excites me most is the chance to grow as a leader while staying close to nature and our guests. I deeply value being a source of support for the team, sharing my experience and knowledge, and helping create unique experiences in one of the most beautiful places in the world.

I look forward to a season filled with learning, teamwork, and building connections with guests, staff, and nature itself. Every year brings new challenges — but with them come incredible opportunities".

What advice do you have for our upcoming guests?

“My advice for future visitors is to come with both an open heart and an open mind. Patagonia is unpredictable — its weather, landscapes, and experiences can change in an instant. But I can assure you, what awaits is a truly unique and unforgettable adventure”.

Thanks to both Francisca and Roberto, we wish them all the best in the new season!
