EcoCamp Patagonia

The British travel magazine Wanderlust has published its Travel Green List for the fourth time: a list of 101 sustainable destinations, initiatives, and accommodations for 2026. The list includes entries across a range of categories, including countries, cities, regions, national parks, projects and programs, cultural experiences, and hotels from around the world.

EcoCamp Patagonia is included as an Ethical Stay in South America and is the only project from Chile to be featured on the list. This is a recognition we are proud of and a rewarding acknowledgment of the hard work of our team, as well as of our partners and guests who believe in and trust us.

Sustainability in action at EcoCamp

This recognition reflects nearly 25 years of commitment to sustainable tourism. Since opening our doors, we have continuously worked to reduce our environmental footprint while creating positive impacts for local communities, our guests, the surrounding environment, and the wider ecosystem that supports it all.

Some of EcoCamp’s sustainability initiatives include:

  • Renewable energy: Approximately 90% of our energy is generated through solar panels and micro-hydro turbines.

  • Recycling and waste management systems: These include solutions such as composting toilets in our domes, helping to reduce water consumption and minimize waste.

  • The design of our domes: Our geodesic domes were designed to minimize environmental impact. They are energy-efficient and aerodynamic, allowing them to withstand Patagonia’s strong winds while reducing energy consumption.

  • Local partnerships: Eighty percent of the suppliers involved in our hotel operations are local or regional businesses. This helps reduce transportation-related emissions while supporting and strengthening the local economy.

  • Education and sustainability awareness: We actively promote sustainability through initiatives such as hosting local school visits, inspiring guests through our EcoTour, and encouraging our staff to become ambassadors of our sustainability vision.

The Travel Green List was created four years ago to highlight sustainable travel initiatives from around the world. According to Wanderlust, much has changed since then. The scale and standard of the work being carried out have increased, demonstrating that sustainable tourism with a focus on local communities and positive impact is possible.

A panel of 12 judges selected the 101 initiatives featured on this year’s list, ranging from large-scale projects to smaller initiatives.
